The Capability Development Grant (CDG) is an initiative of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) which provides financial assistance to sports coaches and sports instructors who wish to upgrade their coaching knowledge and skills in the form of coaching attachments, participation in conferences, short-term courses, workshops and seminars as well as to obtain a degree or diploma, both locally and overseas.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident for at least 2 years
- An active and certified sports coach or sports instructor with evidence of participation in coach education and development activities for the past 3 consecutive years.
Please note that,
- Coaches (and sports instructors) who are registered with the National Registry of Coaches (NROC) are accorded priority.
- Fresh applicants are accorded priority over applicants whom have been awarded a grant in past years.
- Successful applicants are limited to a one-time support within the financial year eg. 1 April 2011 - 31 March 2012.
- For a degree or diploma programme, the course must be coaching and/or sports science related.
What items can be covered?
- For a local conference / degree or diploma programme or short-term course / seminar / workshop, only the course or registration fees will be subsidised.
- For overseas conference / degree or diploma or short-term course / seminar / workshop, only the following expenses will be subsidised:
- Accommodation (3/4 star hotel) or Housing Allowance
- Conference / degree or diploma or short-term course / seminar / workshop course/registration fees
- Return economy airfare at a maximum cap of S$2,500.00
- Land transfer (airport-accommodation-airport only)
- Airport taxes
- Student / Travel visa fees
- For coaches travelling overseas for conference/course/seminar/workshop, travel insurance must be purchased.
- The grant does not cover courses on First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation as they are deemed fundamental skills requirement for coaches. Courses organised by SSC and NSAs such as the National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP) and CCE courses will also not be covered as they are already subsidised by SSC.
How much? The SSC will assess the individual items for approval and subsidise 75% of the cost of approved item(s) or a maximum cap of $5,000.00 whichever is lower.
How long? The processing period takes between 6 to 8 weeks.
