Course Objective: The course will cover the practical aspects of sports nutrition that are important for coaches in helping athletes fuel their performance and improve recovery during training and competition. It focuses on the nutritional strategies for endurance-based and strength-based sports.
Course Outline: From this workshop, participant will learn:
- Weight management;
- Meal planning;
- Introduction to computer software and web-based tools for meal planning and nutritional analysis;
- Travel nutrition;
- Special dietary needs;
- The role of the coach in an athlete's nutrition programme;
- Fuelling performance and improving recovery during training and competition; &
- Nutritional strategies for endurance-based & strength-based sports.
Profile of Trainer: Edmund Foo graduated from Edith Cowan University (ECU) (Australia) with a Bachelor degree in Science (Sports Science) in 2007 and joined Republic Polytechnic (RP) and the School of Sports Health & Leisure (SHL) directly after graduation.
He currently chairs the Sports & Exercise Nutrition modules in the Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science as well as the Specialist-Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science. He is also the Principal Investigator of SHL's second largest tote-board funded project that involves fluid and hydration research in Asian males and females. Sports nutrition is his area of strong interest for future research and studies.
