Course Introduction: Power development is an important factor that contributes to an athlete's proficiency in sporting performance. Medicine ball training is one effective method to train this quality and has gained its foothold in modern strength and conditioning programmes due to its portability and simplicity of use. Medicine balls are able to replicate multi-planner range of motion, allowing for the extensive orchestration of the prime movers and stabilizers within the same movement patterns as seen in most sports. This is seen to assist transference of power from training to 'on the field' athletic performance.
Course Outline: From this workshop, participants will learn:
- Theoretical and practical aspects of utilizing medicine ball training for power development
- Scientific basis of medicine ball training
- Training power for the Upper body, Lower body and Trunk
Profile of Trainer:
Mr. Julian Lim is a performance conditioning coach at the Singapore Sports Institute, where he implements sport-specific training programs for the national and elite level athletes. His current portfolio includes athletes competing in sailing, basketball, windsurfing, rowing, bowling and shooting. He endeavours to research and utilise evidence-based strength training principles to enhance an athlete's sporting performance
Julian graduated from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia with a Degree in Sports Science, majoring in Human Performance. He is also a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), an AWF Level 1 Club Weightlifting and Sports Power Coach and an ATFCA Level 1 Track & Field Coach. He is currently perusing a Graduate Research Programme, focusing on power development in sprinting performance.
