With its outstanding infrastructure and focus on excellence, Singapore is well-positioned to be a top-class international centre for elite sports training and competition. Indeed, Singapore's existing appeal as a training centre already is being enhanced by two factors: the rising need by global players for an Asian presence and the upcoming multi-million dollar Sports Hub. This strategic approach holds tremendous potential for sports development in Singapore:
- Through collaborations with countries that have more mature sports systems, we refine our high performance resources and processes and accelerate our goal of becoming one of the top 10 sporting nations in Asia by 2010.
- Building international recognition of our rising excellence in training systems and facilities will boost Singapore's value as a training base and competition venue and optimise utilisation of the Sports Hub when it is completed.
- We aim to expand the sports knowledge of our high-performance personnel through regular hosting of world-class teams and events. The international athletes will bring with them state of the art sports methodologies, practices and capabilities to the benefit of our athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and sports medicine & sports science personnel.
- We help build the momentum in creating Singapore's sporting culture. Frequent exposure to world-class athletes and teams will ignite an appreciation and passion for sports, leading to further development of a sporting culture in Singapore.
Singapore can achieve several long-term goals by strengthening its ties with leading sports nations and global sports players. We aim to maximise the benefits of these concurrent elements by implementing a management and support structure to ensure that every visiting athlete and team will have a successful and enjoyable visit to Singapore.
