Concentration and Attention
What is concentration?
Concentration is the ability to focus one's attention on the task at hand and thereby not be distracted by irrelevant external or internal stimuli.
What is attention?
Attention is a brief and involuntary state of alertness or preparedness for action.
Two dimensions of attention
Width - The number of elements a person can focus on
Directionality - The target of your attention
Types of Attention
Broad-external - Peripheral awareness and seen in ability to read the game and to scan the environment
Broad-internal - Creative thinking and problem solving, used in addressing game tactics
Narrow-external - Required at the moment the action is made and focused on a limited number of external sources of information
Narrow-internal - Focus on awareness of thought, emotions or behaviour associated with self
