Teamwork
What is a team?
A group of people who share a common identity and have common goals and aspirations.
They also share common experience, attitudes and view points about group structure.
Members of a team are interdependent, have mutual liking for each other, and think of themselves as part of the team.

Each team is one of a kind.
In a sports team, coaches and team leaders should promote a sense of 'WE' and 'US' and reduce the significance of 'I'.
In other words, individuals should put the team before self.

Cohesion in groups
Cohesion is the tendency for a group to stay united as a team. It is the feeling of togetherness and unity in a group.
Factors affecting cohesion:
Proximity - Being in close contact and having the chance to interact with each other will enhance group development. Coaches and team leaders should create oppurtunities for team members to be together. For example, travelling together in the same bus and having meals together.
Distinctiveness - When a group of people becomes more seperate and distinct from others, a sense of unity increases. For example, uniforms, mottos are some things that make a group distinct.
Size - Moderately-sized teams display higher cohesion.
Roles - Are each member's roles clearly defined? Is there role conflict.
Norms - Norms are how a person should behave in a certain social situation. Presence of norms increases cohesion.
Group processes - Some examples of group processes are communication and establishment of goals and rewards. Group processes will affect how cohesive a team is.
Performance outcome - Higher cohesion is related to more successful performance.
Individual satisfaction - How satisfied are you being a member of that team?
