Strength & Conditioning
Strength & Conditioning has become recognised as an essential element of sporting success, across all sports. It refers to the all-round physical preparation of an athlete to complement the athlete's sport-specific skills development.

Strength & Conditioning forms an integral part of the development of all athletes. SSC Strength & Conditioning coaches design programmes that allow each athlete to develop physically and progressively achieve optimal performance.

The sporting year is divided into many different training phases and is dependent on the competition schedule. Each phase of training requires a different type of strength training and conditioning programme for the athlete.

The aims of the SSC Strength & Conditioning programme are to:

  • Develop correct exercise technique
  • Improve the strength base of all athletes
  • Individualise programs to address athletes' specific strengths and weaknesses
  • Improve athletes' physical conditioning through sport-specific conditioning sessions
  • Improve athletes' multi-planar movement through agility and speed sessions
  • Measure and monitor athletes' strength and functional performance
  • Advise and counsel on strength training and conditioning methods
  • Apply research to determine ways and strategies to optimise athletes' sporting performance
