Loan Policies
1. LOAN PRIVILEGES


Books
  • Members are allow to borrow a maximum of 4 books for a period of 30 days.

Audio-Visual Materials (Video Tapes, VCDs, CD-ROMs, Audio Tapes, etc)
  • Members are allow to borrow a maximum of 3 audio-visual items for period of 14 days.
  • Audio-visual materials on loan are for member's personal use and not for public screening.
  • Use of audio-visual materials for publicity and promotion of commercial products and services is prohibited.
  • For corporate members, audio-visual materials may be used within their organisation's premises. The audience must be non-paying and are staff of the organisation.
  • All audio-visual materials on loan are in good condition. As it is not possible to grant screening sessions, members are advised to make visual checks on the condition of the materials before checking them out.


2. Renewal
  • Members may renew library books only once for another 30 days.
  • Audio-visual materials (such as video tapes, VCDs, CD-ROMs, etc.) cannot be renewed.
  • Members may renew the books if the books are not reserved by another member.
  • No overdue fines will be imposed if books are renewed before due date.
  • Members can renew the book:
i. via Online Public Access Catalogue ( OPAC )
ii. via email (ssc_library@ssc.gov.sg) at least one day before due date;
iii. via fax (6500 5044) at least one day before due date;
iv. via telephone (6500 5137/138) at least one day before due date;
v. in person with their NRIC or corporate membership card.
  • For renewals via fax and email, members must provide name of borrower, NRIC/Membership Card No., and the title of book.


3. Reservation
  • Members can make reservations for books/audio-visual materials via OPAC or in person through the librarian. A maximum of two books or videos can be reserved at any one time.
  • A reservation fee of $1.50 is charged for each reserved item.
  • Members will be notified by post or email when reserved items are available.
  • Reserved items will be on hold for members for a duration of 14 days. If the reserved item is not collected during the period, it will be shelved or assigned to the next person on the reservation queue.
  • Members must collect and pay for the reserved item within the time stated in the notification or email. The reservation fee will still be charged for uncollected items.
  • Members must ensure that they have not exceeded their maximum loan quota before collection of the reserved item, upon which the reservation will be cancelled. No charge will be imposed on unfulfilled reservation.


4. Overdue Loan
  • Members are held responsible for all books/audio-visual materials loaned out in their names.
  • Members must return their loan promptly when due or recalled.
  • A fine of $0.50 cents per day will be charged for each overdue book
  • Overdue fines for audio-visual materials/video tapes are charged at $0.50 per item per day.
  • Members loan privileges will be suspended if accumulated fines reach $6.00 or more. It will be restored once the outstanding charges are settled.
  • The Library staff reserves the right to recall any book/audio-visualmaterials on loan.


5. Lost/Damaged Library Books or Audio-Visual Materials
  • Members are responsible for the damage or loss of borrowedbooks/audio-visual materials.
  • For every item lost/damaged, members will have to pay for the cost of the item plus an administrative fee of $10.00 per item.
  • Replacement for lost/damaged items is accepted if it is of the same title/edition and subject to being in a reasonably good condition.
  • There will be no refund once payment is made, even if the lost item is found later.
